Calgarians still haven't been provided with detailed financial information about hosting the 2026 Winter Olympics.
We don't know the real cost to taxpayers - we just know that it will be higher than the $5.2 billion listed in the draft hosting plan.
We don't know how much security will cost - we just know it will cost more than the $600 million stated in the draft hosting plan.
We don't know how much other levels of government will be contributing to the total cost of the Olympics - we just know the money will be coming from taxpayers.
And we don't know what the real economic benefit will be to Calgary - we just know the $7.4 billion estimated in the draft hosting plan is incredibly exaggerated.
In short, we have no way of knowing exactly how expensive these Olympics will be, and what the impact will be on Calgary if we host the 2026 Winter Olympics.
I, the undersigned, believe it is unacceptable to hold a plebiscite on whether or not to host the 2026 Winter Olympics without detailed financial information. I demand that the City of Calgary provide all Calgary voters with comprehensive, fair, and complete financial information WELL BEFORE the November 13th plebiscite on whether or not we move forward with bidding for the Olympics.
