Flatline the Green Line!

Flatline the Green Line!

Calgary's Green Line LRT project is a train wreck.

The line will cost $5 billion for Phase 1 alone, and there's no clear plan for how the line will be built given the complex requirements of running it through the downtown core and the over the Bow River.

After more than ten years of planning, re-planning, re-designing, and re-inventing, not a single piece of track has been laid, and then project remains still on the drawing board.

It's time to pursue new transit options that won't bankrupt our city.

It's time to flatline the Green Line.

I, the undersigned, do not support the risky Green Line LRT project. I demand that City Council flatline the Green Line.

Now is not the time. I am also concerned we will end up with an incomplete project as I am certain the funds will not be there.

Totally agree with the debt load and find it irresponsible considering the covid crisis with it’s added debt load.

Evaluate post-COVID-19 impacts on public movement, and business dislocation; recent energy industry setbacks on downtown Calgary; use of express bus alternatives and costs (much easier and much less costly to match public transit to daily demand fluctuations) – BEFORE making any final decision on the costs and BENEFITS of Green Line construction and completion. If a case for LRT can be made for LRT – go SOUTH, or NORTH to high-density regions – but not both.

Stop the Green Line madness in Calgary. Lower taxes and help businesses instead. Cut government staff.

Lets get our finances in order first. With the current climate and energy commodity prices we could be at 60% vacancy downtown, with out a revenue base how can we afford anything. The city completely dropped the ball reacting to the down turn 4 years ago, and merrily spent money that is not coming in. thus our taxes go up and up. We need to cut hard in city hall and start living within our means.
