Cut City Salaries!

Cut City Salaries!

City salaries are out of control.

City employees earn much more than their private sector counterparts. While thousands of Calgarians have seen their salaries slashed or been laid off, City employees continue to enjoy high wages, premium benefits, platinum pensions, and unparalleled job security.

The cost of employee compensation has gone up by more than 50% since 2010.

More than half of the City of Calgary's budget goes towards paying staff.

With Calgary in economic crisis, we can't afford to maintain these high salaries, and Calgarians can't afford to pay higher taxes.

Cut_Salaries_-_Petition.jpg

City Councillors Jeromy Farkas (Ward 11), Sean Chu (Ward 4), and Joe Magliocca (Ward 2) have purposed a 5% salary cut for City employees, including City Councillors.

This would free up money to hold the line on future tax increases and to invest in priority services like fire and police.

It's time for Calgary to live within its means, and for City Hall to share the pain being felt by Calgarians across the city.

We, the undersigned, demand that City Council pass a salary cut of 5% for City of Calgary employees.

Don’t just look at wages, look at perks. How about every third Friday off. That is our tax dollars not at work.

This is the first time I’ve seen such intransigence by a Calgary council to halt pay rises and freeze hiring during an economic turn down. We are in my opinion nearing bankruptcy due to citizen and business becoming inability to feed this insatiable beast.

For clarity I first visited Calgary in 1977 and have lived here full time since 1980, so I have the perspective needed to really demand a roll back of far more than 5%, but it will do for a start.

You should lay off half of the city to make up for how pathetically ran this city’s been for two terms

Albertans have had job losses, wage cuts so why shouldn’t the bloated public service not do their part in taking a pay cut to be fair.

Normally I do not agree with salary cuts but with city council out of line with the private sector and receiving bonuses and pensions, I don’t think it’s unreasonable for them to join the citizens of Calgary in tightening their belts.

Councilors should take a 10% cut and Nenshi a 20% cut.

I’d rather he was fired. He’s a glutton, along with his minions. Make a name for yourself by doing the right thing. So far Nenshi, you’ll be remembered by you moronic decisions, selfishness, closed door Shenanigans, greed and most of all by knowingly not allowing people to vote when the ballots ran out. You knew you’d lose if they voted.

5% wage cut and 0% tax increase! Nenshi is becoming more arrogant and ignorant everyday; he needs to be removed from office now with no pension as he does not deserve it!!
