Cut City Salaries!

Cut City Salaries!

City salaries are out of control.

City employees earn much more than their private sector counterparts. While thousands of Calgarians have seen their salaries slashed or been laid off, City employees continue to enjoy high wages, premium benefits, platinum pensions, and unparalleled job security.

The cost of employee compensation has gone up by more than 50% since 2010.

More than half of the City of Calgary's budget goes towards paying staff.

With Calgary in economic crisis, we can't afford to maintain these high salaries, and Calgarians can't afford to pay higher taxes.

Cut_Salaries_-_Petition.jpg

City Councillors Jeromy Farkas (Ward 11), Sean Chu (Ward 4), and Joe Magliocca (Ward 2) have purposed a 5% salary cut for City employees, including City Councillors.

This would free up money to hold the line on future tax increases and to invest in priority services like fire and police.

It's time for Calgary to live within its means, and for City Hall to share the pain being felt by Calgarians across the city.

We, the undersigned, demand that City Council pass a salary cut of 5% for City of Calgary employees.

Start with the lowering of speed limit to 30kph in residential and feeder routes. They would spend millions doing this. NOT NECESSARY! Spending millions on the bicycle pathways downtown. NOT NECESSARY. I go downtown twice a day 5 days a week and for the money spent on these routes I don’t see that much usage. To me the money spent on these things is WASTEFUL!!!

History is full of rebellion when people pay 54% of their hard earned money to taxes/politicians. I think we’re there now

Salary Roll back including council. They got 12% over 3 yrs; 0 last yr and now want 1.5 increase while every family is affected by a member losing their job. Enough, the gravy train ends fiscal responsibility starts.

City workers wages must be cut by city council to ensure that taxes do not increase in 2020.
