Cut City Salaries!

Cut City Salaries!

City salaries are out of control.

City employees earn much more than their private sector counterparts. While thousands of Calgarians have seen their salaries slashed or been laid off, City employees continue to enjoy high wages, premium benefits, platinum pensions, and unparalleled job security.

The cost of employee compensation has gone up by more than 50% since 2010.

More than half of the City of Calgary's budget goes towards paying staff.

With Calgary in economic crisis, we can't afford to maintain these high salaries, and Calgarians can't afford to pay higher taxes.

City Councillors Jeromy Farkas (Ward 11), Sean Chu (Ward 4), and Joe Magliocca (Ward 2) have purposed a 5% salary cut for City employees, including City Councillors.

This would free up money to hold the line on future tax increases and to invest in priority services like fire and police.

It's time for Calgary to live within its means, and for City Hall to share the pain being felt by Calgarians across the city.

We, the undersigned, demand that City Council pass a salary cut of 5% for City of Calgary employees.

How about a 10% salary cut for the ’world’s best mayor’? Then eliminate at least one of his multiple pensions. Nenshi has done this city enormous damage. And we have to endure him and his spend-a-holic minions for another year and a half. Can’t wait for some responsible municipal government.

Your comment sums it up…“From arts organizations and community activists to bicycle zealots and climate fanatics were clamouring for more money for their pet projects.” These projects are things you examine when there’s no financial crisis.

Calgarians will take note at next election!! These “radicals” must GO or the City of Calgary will not survive…and don’t think it can’t happen!!

Carol Lee Tucker Yes the salaries need to be cut. It would also be appreciated if parking control would ticket drivers who park in residential areas to catch the C train. Somervale Drive ends in a circle, which is bumper to bumper drivers pkg all day to catch the train. Homeowners along Somervale drive cannot even park in front of their own residences. There is a sign “Thank you for not parking, this is a residental area”, but the cars/trucks, yes and even a bus are there nearly every day.

Unfortunately I believe my city counsellor, Peter Demong, doesn’t usually stand up and speak for his constituents but follows the pack of old dogs that skulk around city hall. Let’s not cut the REAL essential services especially at the front lines, such as fire, police. Roll back wages and again, not just at the front line level…..

Cut city employee wages now and trim back their damn benefit and pension packages. @ Gian-Carlo Carra (Ward 9), when you ran in the last elecion in the modified riding, you personally came to my door. We talked about city spending and you agreed that it was TOO HIGH, WASTEFUL etc.. You said you were against Spendshi throwing tax payer’s money around like there was no tomorrow and would fight for the people in your ward. Based on that, I let you put up a sign on my lawn. Lying bastard. DO NOT EVER SET FOOT IN MY YARD AGAIN!!!
