Cut City Salaries!

Cut City Salaries!

City salaries are out of control.

City employees earn much more than their private sector counterparts. While thousands of Calgarians have seen their salaries slashed or been laid off, City employees continue to enjoy high wages, premium benefits, platinum pensions, and unparalleled job security.

The cost of employee compensation has gone up by more than 50% since 2010.

More than half of the City of Calgary's budget goes towards paying staff.

With Calgary in economic crisis, we can't afford to maintain these high salaries, and Calgarians can't afford to pay higher taxes.

Cut_Salaries_-_Petition.jpg

City Councillors Jeromy Farkas (Ward 11), Sean Chu (Ward 4), and Joe Magliocca (Ward 2) have purposed a 5% salary cut for City employees, including City Councillors.

This would free up money to hold the line on future tax increases and to invest in priority services like fire and police.

It's time for Calgary to live within its means, and for City Hall to share the pain being felt by Calgarians across the city.

We, the undersigned, demand that City Council pass a salary cut of 5% for City of Calgary employees.

City hall should start thinking like a single mother with children and have priorities, not niceties. They all get to have fancy meetings with food and drink on top of their nice salaries. Unemployed Calgarians are not so lucky and they seem to be saying “let them eat cake”!

I believe 5% is not enough more like 7% would more comparable to current salaries. I’m self employed and basically have not had a raise in more than 30 years. If I wanted to make more money I worked harder and took on more responsibilities. It’s time the unionized employees realized they need to justify their salary!!

5% isn’t enough 10% for councillors and 15% for his uselessness and 10% for all the bureaucrats at city hall. 5% reduction for city employees is the bare minimum reduction, there needs to be significant reductions in the benefits as well

In a time when our Alberta economy is not stable and Families are losing everything while businesses are closing down in Calgary and taxes are up I feel that it is an insult to Calgary taxpayers and citizens that our City Hall persons believe that they are so noteworthy that they have huge pensions and an arrogant attitude that they deserve wage increases and more perks!! If YOU are not part of the SOLUTION then YOU are part of the PROBLEM!! Guess which end of the spectrum you are on City of Calgary Council Members!!
